The Impact
The black-footed ferret is a flagship species for our prairies. Being a flagship speicies means he is an ‘icon’ or ‘ambassador’ for our prairies. They’re using the black-footed ferret as an icon to save around 130 plants and animals. That means if we save just one animal, we can save around 130 more. To be a flagship species, you have to have plants and animals that share the flagship's species' habitat and have similar things threatening it. By helping to save the black-footed ferret, you're saving 130 other species, by saving 130 species, you're saving our prairies. Flagship Species
Food Chain

If the ferrets were gone it would affect the food chain. This is because there is a wide variety of species that eat the ferret. These include:
-
Golden eagles
-
Great horned owls
-
Coyotes
-
American badgers
-
Bobcats
-
Prairie falcons
-
Ferruginous hawks
-
Prairie rattlesnakes
By having the black-footed ferret being a prey to these animals, some of the species might decrease in size because there may be no other food supply for them.
